Featured Installer: Coastal Marine Piling Brings Helical Solutions to South Jersey’s Toughest Access Challenges

When foundation work requires precision in tight quarters—or when timber piling simply won’t fit – South Jersey contractors turn to Coastal Marine Piling and IDEAL® helical pile systems from Danbro.

Helical Piles Where Timber Can’t Go

T. Gallagher, who manages Coastal Marine’s field operations, put it simply: “The helical piling allows us to install the required foundation piling in small areas behind existing houses, side yards, front yards… anywhere.”

Based in Ocean City and operating throughout the region from Cape May to Brigantine, Coastal Marine handles approximately 180 timber pile foundation projects annually. But when access becomes restricted, helical piles become the solution of choice.

Recent Project Spotlight: Cape May Historic District & Stone Harbor

This month, we’re highlighting two coastal projects that showcase helical pile versatility:

  • Cape May Historic District: Foundation support requiring minimal disturbance to historic structures
  • Stone Harbor: Marine installation demonstrating helical performance in challenging coastal conditions

Access Solutions: From 30-Inch Openings to Open Water

Coastal Marine’s equipment fleet includes specialized mini-excavators capable of navigating openings as narrow as 30 inches. This allows helical pile installation in scenarios that would be impossible with traditional timber methods:

  • Interior bearing wall removal and reinforcement
  • Pool installations in existing backyards
  • Deck additions where excavator access is limited
  • Front yard additions without extensive site disruption

“We have a mini bobcat that can crawl into houses through a 30-inch wide opening,” Gallagher explained. “Instead of using a handheld powerhead, we use that mini excavator – basically allowing us to install pilings anywhere.”

The Danbro Difference: Service + Expertise

When asked about the partnership, Gallagher highlighted two critical factors:

Reliable Service: “We call the order in, set up the truck for the day we need it, and the order’s there at the exact time that we need it.”

Available Expertise: “There are several jobs where I’ve had conversations with Frank D’Angleo, he’ll engineer the job, give input on what’s needed and what’s required. We always have that option if it’s needed.”

Coastal Marine primarily relies on IDEAL’s 2⅞” round shaft helical piles for their South Jersey projects, citing consistent performance and reliable availability.

Partnership Built on Performance

“The relationship we have with Frank, our loyalty to them and them providing good service to us,” Gallagher noted, summarizing a partnership built on mutual reliability and technical expertise.

For contractors facing limited access, coastal conditions, or projects where traditional timber piling isn’t viable, helical pile systems offer proven performance with minimal site disruption.
