Date: 11/9/2016

A marina’s bulkhead deadmen system gave way in weak soils saturated by the storm surge. Helical anchors, on a 10 degree angle, were installed to a dense sand level to arrest the movement and stabilize the bulkhead.

Project Summary:

  • Helical Pile Type: 1.50″ Square Shaft
  • # of Helical Piles: 71
  • Location: Ocean City, NJ
  • Installation Depth: 70′
  • Equipment Used: Excavator 9K drivehead w/marian Digital Torque Indicator
  • Challenge/Unique Aspect: Due to existing buildings on the site, no vibration and small, low impact installation equipment was required. In addition, helicals could be installed below the deadmen system eliminating excessive excavation which could further undermine the bulkhead.
  • General Contractor: Channel Marine
