The project included the installation of 2,675 linear feet of elevated boardwalk, 650 helical piles, and the seamless installation of a 50’ x 6’ Bedford ReadySpan™ pedestrian bridge, connecting key pathways in the Preserve offering visitors an enhanced perspective of the Preserve’s diverse natural features. To protect the Preserve’s sensitive environment, RENOVA , implemented comprehensive environmental protection measures, including erosion and sediment controls, high-visibility fencing, and ground protection matting to minimize construction impacts when wetlands intrusion was allowable.
Project Summary:
- Helical Pile Type: 3.5″ Pipe Piles .300 Wall 12″ 14″ Lead
- # of Helical Piles: 650
- Location: Cape May, NJ
- Installation Depth: 14′
- Helix Plates/Ultimate Pile Capacity:17,000Ft. Lbs Torque
- Equipment Used: Kuboto U35 7K &5K Ft. Lb. Drive Heads
- Challenge/Unique Aspect: The installation was incredibly challenging as the entire walkway had to be installed “build as you go” with no intrusion into the wetland permitted. This included the pre-fabricated bridge that spanned over a body of water and was in a remote area of the preserve. Boardwalk Sections had to be pre-fabricated and along with leads and extensions, transported by a dolly on the previously constructed sections. Amazingly, the project, an example of “Flyover Construction”, was delivered on budget, on time while seamlessly integrating the new bridge and boardwalk system into an existing trail system.
