Perdue Elevator Tower and Truck Receiving Pit

Perdue Elevator Tower and Truck Receiving Pit

A truck receiving storage bin at a busy grain storage facility was experiencing settlement and needed additional structural support. Helical Piles were selected as the least intrusive method of repair.

Project Summary:

  • Helical Pile Type: 4 1/2″ Pipe Piles (.337 wall)
  • # of Helical Piles: 4
  • Location: Salisbury, MD
  • Installation Depth: 58′ – 64′
  • Helix Plates/Ultimate Pile Capacity: 225 Kips
  • Equipment Used: CAT 315 Excavator
  • Challenge/Unique Aspect: Access and mobilization issues were the driving force to utilize helicals for the foundation repair. In addition to truck traffic and multiple existing storage bins, an 85’ high diagonal cable needed to be avoided as well. A 315 Excavator was used to reach over a grain conveyor belt to install the piles and allow regular operations at the facility to continue.
  • Danbro Installer: Sun Pile Foundation
  • Engineer/Architect: John D. Hynes & Assoc.
  • General Contractor: Julius Groff
