A third of the timber piles supporting a home on the water were rotting and the remaining piles were showing signs of deterioration. All needed to be replaced. Helical piles were selected as the replacement foundation due to their sustainability and there ability to deal with limited overhead and the existing timber.
Project Summary:
- Helical Pile Type: 2 7/8″ Pipe Piles .203 wall
- # of Helical Piles: 26
- Location: Cape May, NJ
- Installation Depth: 25′ – 30′
- Helix Plates/Ultimate Pile Capacity: 8″ 10″ 12″ / 5′ Leads & extensions
- Equipment Used: Kabota SCL 1,000- Mini-Track loader
- Challenge/Unique Aspect: Overhead access was limited so 5’leads & extensions were used. Piles had to be installed working around existing timber piles so mobilization issues required a Mini-Track Loader to navigate tight spaces. In addition, Harold Anenberg, the installer had to restrict installation to low tide due to water intrusion.
